From the sixteenth century, the Spanish monarchy ruled over a giant area in North, Central, and South America. Norms, institutions, and practices from Europe were translated into the world that was new to the invaders, either suppressing or mixing with the rights of Indigenous peoples. This volume provides an introduction to this chapter of legal history, provides an overview of the sources and literature, and reveals research perspectives.
